I was glad to see compiz 8.2 finally in the XGL repository. I knew it would run well on this box, I run it in my archlinux install on the same box. However, something is wrong with the openSuSE rpm for 11.0. The first thing I noticed was the cylinder rotation was gone. I then checked the "Cube Reflection and Deformation" setting and it was unchecked. I then attempted to check it, the check mark appeared, then 3 seconds later the checkmark removed itself just like the XGL mess that we went through in the compiz 6x to 7x transition.

To test, I completely uninstalled compiz:

rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep compiz) fusion-icon

and then reloaded compiz from the X11/XGL repository like I have always done. Same problem. The packages I have installed are:

This is with 11.0 and the fglrx driver. Everything else seems OK, wobbly, expo, scale, shift-switch, opacity, zoom, etc.. just not Cube Reflection and Deformation. Anybody know the solution? Anybody else seeing this??

A few additional bugs in openSuSE's compiz 8.2 (1) plasma's kicker crashes when starting compiz with fusion-icon and when switching between kwin and compiz. Restarting plasma with: #!/bin/bash kbuildsycoca4 kquitapp plasma-desktop >/dev/null 2>&1 kstart plasma-desktop & >/dev/null 2>&1 restores the kicker panel and pager (2) cube rotation animation delay is stuck (feels like it is quadruple what it used to be and cannot be reset with Rotate Cube) There is no crisp switch with ctrl+alt+(rt. or lt. arrow) (3) cube rotation messes up the background for the period when the rotation is stuck where 1/2 the screen is dim and 1/2 the screen is light. (I now save copies of the old compiz rpms for reinstall since these problems seem to occur with every compiz upgrade that is rolled out) I look forward to the 8.2 bugs in openSuSE being fixed. The compiz 8.2 rendering of effects is very smooth and is a big improvement over 7.8. Danny and the rest of the compiz folks have done a great job with compiz in the past six months or so.
