[opensuse] Please vote for Dolphin Crashes when connecting to MS share
All, This bug has been around for a while and I think I'm the only voter. [Bug 197851] Dolphin crashes when trying to connect to MS windows shared directory https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197851 It seems like core functionality we need fixed before 11.2 comes out. Greg, Oh the irony --- as much as I hate flipper, I can actually connect to XP smb shared directories and those shared by samba. See: (138k) http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_bugs/kde4/screenshots/dolphin-x... However, dolphin had no ability to search for or find the smb shares available. Clicking on Places -> Network -> Samba Shares resulted in the Error: Unable to connect to smb://smb-network. I had to click on this multiple times, then manually input smb://hostname before it would find any smb shares. Then clicking on Places -> Network -> Samba Shares (two more time -- which failed), then it finally showed the workgroup properly. This multiple failures to connect seem very similar to the fish nightmare being experienced by all users and may be related. This should be investigated in conjuction with https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189235 I believe the difference in my being able to connect is probably due to the fact that I had my user/password combination already set in control center -> Network & Connections -> Sharing -> Local Network Browsing. -- David C. A little off topic, but David would you be willing to send me a zipped copy of the recipe directory? I've been looking for new "healthier" recipes. -- If you don't know what you want, you end up with a lot you don't. -Fight Club -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Just realized, I'm still running RC1 on this desktop. Upgrading now
to see if I still have the problem.

The above bug is resolved for me with KDE 4.3 RC3. In fact, I found the browsing superior to prior KDE3 efforts at browsing a MS Workgroup. 4.3 is just getting better and better. Agreed. But looking under the hood, there are still a substantial number of bugs equivalent in functional impact to this "browsing smb shares" that still must be resolved before you will be able to install kde4 "in place of" instead of "along side of" kde3. But it is making progress. The ironic part is we are nearly on the ".3 production release" and for all practical purposes, the desktop still isn't really finished yet. How are we nearly on ".3" but still getting rid of "beta" issues? I always thought "alph" came before "beta" which came before the ".0" (dot O) release... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
