[opensuse] Wireless issue - loosing connection
Hi, With a fully updated openSUSE 11.3 install running on a Compaq Presario V 5000 T I am loosing the wireless connection. Kernel log has the following information: No probe response from AP .... after 500ms, disconnecting. The machine has an Intel chip: Model: "Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection" and the iwl3945 driver is always properly loaded and running. The network uses WEP, wpa_supplicant is not running (don't know whether it should be or not). The network is started via if-up at boot time, i.e. NetworkManager is out of the picture. Is there a fix/workaround to avoid this problem? Interestingly enough I have a Dell on the same network that has the same Intel chip, and I have not experienced this type of issue. However, the Dell is using NetworkManager as it does "travel" while the Compaq does not "travel". Thus my workaround may be to enable NetworkManager on the Compaq as well. I suppose this works because NetworkManager will automatically reconnect when the network is dropped. I do find the "No probe response..." messages in the Dell's log file as well. Is there a bug already someone is aware of, is it worth filing a bug? Comments, suggestions?
