[SLE] "unzip" case (in)sensitivity
I have two zip archives containing graphics and html files, comprising an "e-book" in hypertext format. I want to unzip the archives and preserve all case-sensitivity in file names. I use the command "unzip" on them and get all upper-case filenames. The html code names them in lower-case or mixed-case (and some upper-case). My wife can read them just fine on the Windows 98 system (dual-boot machine). So I mount the Win partition and "cp -r" the directories in question to my /home directory. Root chowns, chgrps, and chmods all files to my ownership. They are all lower-case filenames. But some of them *are* supposed to be upper-case filenames! To add insult to injury, even after chown/chgrp/chmod (644) so that I own the files, I cannot perform a simple "mv foo.gif FOO.GIF" because it says permission denied. I love Linux, but this stuff is making me crazy! Phil -- --*-- --*-- --*-- --*-- --*-- --*-- --*-- --*-- Phillip B. Burton

How about taring them? Either using Linux to tar them from the Windows partition, or using a Windows program to tar them while in Windows and then untarring in Linux? That should preserve all the filenames properly. Hope that helps, Chris -- Apologies to everyone who has been waiting for replies off me over the past few weeks - I've been away from my computer. I'll try to catch up with my email over the coming days, but don't be surprised if you get a reply in a month's time... __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
