[SLE] Third send: Installing the Zip drive led to a problem.....
It looks like my second send didn't make it to the list, so here it goes again: SuSE folks! I read the Zip drive minihowto and used it as a guide to recompile my SuSE 6.3 kernel. The kernel came up, despite numerous 'warnings' in various places. I am using it now as I write this email. (I've recompiled in RH5.0, SuSE 5.3 and maybe 6.0, but never recall seeing as many warnings as I did on this recompile.) I had my mustek scanner setup for Win95 but I blew that off my box last weekend! I swapped the propriatary scanner card for the NCR53c810 scsi card, which was recognized fine and it saw the scanner! My problem is the paraport drivers didn't install. It gives the following errors: root@JLKreps:/home/jerry > insmod ppa Using /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/ppa.o /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/ppa.o:unresolved symbol parport_unregister_device /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/ppa.o: unresolved symbol parport_enumerate /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/ppa.o: unresolved symbol parport_register_device /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/ppa.o: unresolved symbol parport_claim /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/ppa.o: unresolved symbol parport_release root@JLKreps:/home/jerry > It may be a compile problem, which I doubt, but looking at the IRQ interrupts it looks to me like there are no free IRQs for the printer drivers to use, specifically 5 or 7, which are taken by the oss sound drivers. It may be a compile problem, which I doubt, but looking at the IRQ interrupts it looks to me like there are no free IRQs for the printer drivers to use, specifically 5 or 7, which are taken by the oss sound drivers.
What to do?
try "modprobe ppa" insmod might not work, since ppa depends on some other (yet unloaded) modules. modprobe will load dependent modules as well.
