[opensuse] Opensuse Leap and GIMP 2.10

Hello! I now run Leap 42.3. And I tried to install GIMP 2.10 on it, but quickly entered dependency hell. I suppose there is no way to install GIMP 2.10 in a fast way on 42.3, or is it? I'm using http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/mrbadguy:/gimp-unstable/ both for Leap 42.3 and Tumbleweed. TW has 2.10, but Leap seems still on gimp-2.9.9.git.20180217.bdab2829ef (better than nothing ...)

it is not in Tw OSS but I don't know if I would consider it "unstable". I consider "unstable" something that crashes or causes system problems and I have not noticed that but I am running Tw. it is in Tw graphics. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, if it were unstable it would (still) be 2.9 or (already) 2.11. Even-numbered GIMP releases have always been the stable ones. Maybe not bug-free (what is, except for TeX maybe :D) but not 'unstable' FWIW, I've been using 2.9 already for quite some time now. No crashes, largest issue is missing compatibility for plugins. At least TW *has* to go for 2.10 real soon IMHO... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

zypper -v up libglib-2_0-0 since you are installing packages from outside the regular repos, you will probably have to add repos containing other gimp requirements. and if you are not somewhat familiar with that process, you may put your systen into deep, deep, do-do. backup, backup, backup -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, so far everything needed for this repo was either from the standard ones or supplied in proper version by that same repo (babl, gegl etc.). Else I would not have recommended it... That is absolutely true. But but there is no risk of losing data, as I always back up everything to two separate external disks. The worst thing that might happen, is that the program installation itself is destroyed and so I might have to re-install the system. That, however, it not a big thing since I have made separate partitions for the data, the swap file and the system. -- Noise reduction is just another word for image destruction. This is strange. Did you actually add the repo to zypper, or just download a (single) package? You *do* need other stuff from there. So rather add it and run a 'zypper dup --allow-vendor-change -r <reponame>'. But for sure I am running the 2.9.9.git.20180217.bdab2829ef-32.1 version of gimp from this repo on my 42.3, and it does not need any updated libglib. I also have only libglib-2_0-0-2.48.2-3.4.x86_64 installed. So I wonder how you got there... But as there seems to be another repo with 2.10 you might rather continue that road :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
