I am running KDE. I am playing as root... I know... not recommended. I am a total Linux moron so bear with me. It's frustrating because I'm not new to computing ... just linux. I am forcing myself to learn. What do you suggest I do rather than root? I have created myself as a user but do I have priveleges to install apps etc? When should I use root? I did get the icon installed... thanks for your help.
You can run sux, from the command line and become root, when you need to install stuff.. It's more secure than su, switch user. As a normal user, you can install stuff in your home directory or where you have write permissions, but most applications that install stuff for you ask for root's password. Glad I could help O'reilly has some good linux books, if you're interested. Franklin
