[SLE] Printing PostScript howto's on 8 1/2 x 11 paper
I attempted to print one of the Howto Postscript files (*.ps.gz) and ran into the problem that the page headers were being clipped off because my printer is using 8 1/2 x 11 paper (standard American issue) and the PostScript file is apparently set up for European paper. I also tried using dvips on the .dvi file, but that didn't work because the Howto uses some fonts (dcit1000, dcbi1200, etc.) that my TeX installation doesn't know about. Any suggestions on how to print these things? Paul, what I do in these circumstances is to run pstops over the manuscript. I even have an alias defined for this which does a good job for most cases: alias ps2ps='pstops -pletter 1:\(0,-0.9cm\)' However, you may want to experiment a bit with your particular file if this doesn't do the trick, i.e., shift it around on the page a bit more. Usually the A4 layout, although being a little longer than letter will still fit on a letter page albeit with smaller top and bottom margins than originally intended. Good luck, Alex. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Is there a general description around somewhere of the various PostScript utilities such as pstops, psmerge, psselect, etc? I know I can read the individual man pages, but I'm looking for some unified description and a list of what utilities are available. An inquiring mind wants to know. YaST ; Choose/Install Packages ; searchstring=`ps' ; F5 to search ; F2 for package descriptions. :) -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Looks like a pseudo-solution to me <grin>. Paul -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Well, then, I guess my ideas are too simplistic for the likes of you... ;) I think that the PS document format is too old, and too widely implemented for someone to say, "Look! Here is the definitive guide to what PostScript is, what it does, and what you can do with it in the future." Old, as in lithographers have been using it for a considerable number of years; widely implemented as in used on everything from business cards to letterhead to billboards. If you want to see what's available, I'd say check freshmeat.net. If you want everything to be handed to you on a silver platter, buy a Macintosh ;). -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I've discovered that if you open the man page for one of the PostScript utilities (which are in one place on the TeXLive CD if you happen to have it, it seems), you'll see a list of all the others.
