Grtz Drz Beste Dries, Seems to be improved a lot and it works better. Was already looking for a replacement but than you have to reeducate the whole family ;(. Did not have a look at the Skype site because their was no movement with the Linux Skype and a whole lot of unhappy participants. Thanks for the hint.

Thanks for the hint. Skype 1.2 did not work with 10.1. It said that the sound device was busy. Starting it with "artsdsp" also did not work. The 1.3 beta works without any problem, starting normally. -- Carlos FL

Skype 1.2 didn't uspport alsa, and used the OSS interface. As far as I know it also started arts if it wasn't running already, and as you might know, arts is no good for anything. Skype 1.3 supports alsa natively - works a heck of a lot better just about everywhere I've tried it. Hans

I've been happily using Skype 1.2.0.18 with openSUSE 10.1. No serious problems with my HW+SW configuration. Thanks for the piece of advice anyway, think I'll give 1.3 a try. Cheers, -mw
