Re: [opensuse] NVIDIA 9400GT unknown device X11 problem ?
No knowledge available in the hollyday season ???
I cleanup the thread . Summary: Configuration: OpenSuse 11.1 X86-64(up to date) Graphics card:ASUS EN9400GT Silent Runs as vesa framebuffer.
After installing the nvidia videodriver (V185.18.14 or V185.18.31) this driver cannot be used. Also for the nv driver it is an unknown device.
The logfile Xorg0.log gives the following info: ----- X.Org X Server 1.5.2 Release Date: 10 October 2008 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX Current Operating System: Linux jjm1 2.6.27.25-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-07-01 15:37:09 +0200 x86_64 Build Date: 02 July 2009 08:00:37AM

I had some spare time and a spare partition so I installed a very recent release of sabayon linux, because some review told me "the most recent video drivers" This distribution recognized my videocard. This Xorg0.log showed me the next info: ----- X.Org X Server 1.5.3 Release Date: 5 November 2008 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.25-sabayon x86_64 Current Operating System: Linux sabayon 2.6.29-sabayon #1 SMP Thu Jun 11 13:33:04 UTC 2009 x86_64 Build Date: 21 June 2009 05:20:59PM

sabayon uses Nvidia proprietary driver V185.18.14 The conclusion of this step is: 1. The problem is not HW related. 2. the problem is not related to the Nvidia proprietary driver.
What else remains, HAL and X11.
But this card should run in OpenSuse, what should be updated ?
Who helps me out of this. Waiting til the release of 11.2 is a bad solution.
Thanks, Hans
