[opensuse] Kmail importing settings from 11.2
Hi . Well spanner number 2 . Kmail does not want to use all my settings ie accounts filters ect ect from my 11.2 kde4.3.1 install Is it not time we got this sorted once and for all time i have too many accounts to go re creating them every time too many filters to go re creating them every time I have my kmailrc file and any other relavent file but this version of kmail is just completely ignoring them now how do i force it to use them . Why do we have this all the time , i have never had 1 move go without problems on mail you would sort of hope that it would just read and continue but nope i have imported all my mails into the new kmail but why can it not do the job correctly and set the folders up instead of building a seperate tree that i then have to go into and mess around moving things to where they were before the import and why does it insist in marking every single mail as unread when they are all read and stored people this needs sorting semi rant over Now anyone know how to make this use my existing kmailrc Pete PS am onto the time and date thing if it's out it wont be for long (new battery needed(too tight to buy one today)) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Pete, I have been using Thunderbird from the time it was originally called Netscape (suite), or, to be less flowery, from day one when it became Thunderbird - and at that time I was dual booting between XP and SuSE AND using the same set of TB mail files in both XP and SuSE just to make it interesting :-) . I have been using the very same copy of /.thunderbird directory with all the mail in all the versions of SuSE and then openSUSE and now Ubuntu since that time, not to mention the change of ISPs; all I do is make a backup of the directory (and the /.mozilla directory for Firefox) and copy it over to the new installation of the new version of my OS. I have done the same for my wife on her computer - and she has made the same progression with Thunderbird(/Firefox), systems and ISPs as I have (naturally, since I do the "administration" :-) .) I have never had a crash or lost any mail (except once when I hit the wrong key and zapped the directory :-( - but I did have the backup). If you are having hassles, change to Thunderbird - unless you have some sort of religious barriers to doing so. Hi Basil . I have tried Thunderbird several times but never got to liking it for some reason always been much happier with kmail but these stupids of not importing things and all the messing about are getting a bit rich after all these years esp when no one does anything about them . Having a Linux distro available for you to install is, of course, the matter of freedom of choice: don't like one, try another. At the same time, one doesn't have to keep hitting one's head against a brick wall just because you have a preference for something which doesn't perform for you - and keep whingeing about it to boot. My wife was using openSUSE until a few days ago, when I finally was allowed :-) , and had the time, to change her over to Ubuntu - and for weeks now she has been complaining about "this" suddenly not working or "that" suddenly changing on her screen without her doing anything (no exaggeration but I won't go into details), and I couldn't answer her complaints except to say that," Some updates were put thru...". I don't mean this statement as a precursor for a flame-war - just stating the truth. All the things she was complaining about have now vanished - she is a "happy-chappy". All her mail folders she'd had for years are 'working' perfectly, all her Firefox settings haven't been affected - in fact she now has no hassles accessing some some URLs which she did before. All I am trying to say here is that "If it hurts, why do it?". If kmail is giving you grief then why not try Thunderbird - you have used it so you do know something about it, and all you need to do is to change your mental approach and see if what you didn't like about it before was simply "a figment of the imagination"- the same approach to thinking that you were forced to do when KDE3 was replaced with KDE4, or when people changing from Windows to a Linux distro are told to do: it's a different ball-game so change your mental approach to the OS. Until some months ago I thought that KDE was the ultimate ants-pants - and argued so. Now I think, and know, differently. But, it is up to you which way you go. Want to enjoy life, switch to Thunderbird; want to go to bed at night feeling a nervous wreck, stick with kmail :-) . You want help with using Thunderbird? then ask - I'd be more than glad to help (and you know that). Don't want Thunderbird? Then use something else - and someone else will be able to help you out with your choice. (How about SeaMonkey - which is Firefox and Thunderbird rolled into one - the original Netscape reworked and renamed etc etc into SeaMonkey :-) ?)
