Hi All;
A few weeks ago, A friend wrote about how to use shortcuts on Lynx/Netscape. For example: in your hosts file put this in:
199.184.169.70 www.linuxgazette.com lj
Now I should be able to just type in "lj" to get to the Linux Gazette web page. BUT, in stead I'm getting this error:
*************************************************************************** ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved
_________________________________________________________________
While trying to retrieve the URL: <A HREF="http://lj/"><A HREF="http://lj/</A">http://lj/
The following error was encountered: * DNS name lookup failure
The system returned: DNS Domain 'lj' is invalid: Host not found (authoritative).
This means that: The named host probably does not exist.

If you use a proxy, the proxy will try to resolv the hostname, not your lokal host, so you have to make sure, that this line is in /etc/hosts on the machine, that runs the proxy. But anyway, I'm not sure if squid uses /etc/hosts at all. It uses a subprocess called 'dnserver' to speed up DNS rewuests, it may be, that this bypasses /etc/hosts... Disable the proxy in your browser and try again, this should work...
