If you use a proxy, the proxy will try to resolv the hostname, not your
lokal host, so you have to make sure, that this line is in /etc/hosts
on the machine, that runs the proxy.
But anyway, I'm not sure if squid uses /etc/hosts at all. It uses a=20
subprocess called 'dnserver' to speed up DNS rewuests, it may be, that
this bypasses /etc/hosts...
Disable the proxy in your browser and try again, this should work...
