[opensuse] enable DHCP server broadcast Suse 11
Hello, Is there a way to ensure that the DHCP server on Suse will broadcast? Perhaps this is the default setting, but I want to make sure our Vista machines can get a DHCP assigned address. Thank you, James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, you can go into Yast and set up the dhcp server. That is generally all you have to do. Be sure to have it use only your INTERNAL interface if you have more than NIC in the machine. Some up-stream network providers can get a little testy if you start serving DHCP onto the cable modem system. You typically only want one DHCP server per network, so if you have another router make sure it does not have its dhcp server turned on. -- ----------JSA--------- Someone stole my tag line, so now I have this rental. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There's nothing wrong with having multiple DHCP servers, provided there's some means of preventing them from handing out duplicate addresses. The easiest way is to simply give each server it's own address pool, within the same subnet. The other info, such as default root etc., is usually the same for all DHCP servers. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Correction: That should read "default route etc." -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

AFIK, DHCP servers don't broadcast. They respond to DHCP requests, which are broadcasts from clients. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
