OS: SuSE v9.0 MTA: Postfix v2.0.14 Popper: qpopper v 4.0.5 We have been experimenting with setting up virtual mailboxes for virtual users / domains with no corresponding Linux user accounts and have successfully queued mail. We activated qpopper to attempt to pick up mail for these virtual users but cannot seem to get past the authentication: telnet mail.server.com 110 +OK POP3 mail.server.com v2003.83 server ready user virtual_user@virtual_domain.com -ERR Unknown AUTHORIZATION state command though the qpopper docs seem to specifically allow this exact syntax. What am I missing here? Should I be using a different POP3 server? If so, which one? Thank you, Lucky Leavell
users are not virtual to popper: use it's real username to auth. On Tue, 20 Apr 2004, Lucky Leavell wrote:

I am pretty new to this and using cyrus-imap instead. But we login a little differently (i.e. no "at" sign): user virtual_user.virtual_domain.com This might also applly to qpopper? - Richard -----Original Message----- From: Lucky Leavell [mailto:susemisc@UniXpress.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 8:03 PM To: [SLE] Subject: [SLE] Retrieving Mail for Virtual Users OS: SuSE v9.0 MTA: Postfix v2.0.14 Popper: qpopper v 4.0.5 We have been experimenting with setting up virtual mailboxes for virtual users / domains with no corresponding Linux user accounts and have successfully queued mail. If I'm not mistaken, you are using plain auth over an uncripted transport (telnet), and that is not allowed any more (since suse 8.2). You need to follow the advice in the sdb or recompile the daemon to allow plain auth. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
