ASUS 9600XT video card (based on the ATI 9600). I note that none of the ASUS graphics cards nor the ATI 9600 are listed in SuSE's hardware database. Any advice or experiences? If this has been discussed before, please help with an approximate date range. Many thanks /Hans

Speaking to myself I guess ... Installed using the old Radeon Rage drivers, it works but doesn't take advantage of the features. Downloaded ATI's 9600 Linux drivers, run their RPM and now I can't get SaX2 working - starts properly and then disappears while (end of) building cddb. /Hans

I don't think you mentioned what system your running.... 9.0? what kernel. Running an bunch of 9600's here on the 2.6.5 kernel (with 9.0) and some other configurations. Not using acceleration nor the ATI rpm's. They work fine out of the box on 2.4.21 etc kernels too. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Hans, Read the Readme files that come with your ATI Drivers or from the site. If you decide to use the ATI drivers than you have to use all their setup tools as well. If you try to use Sax2, you will kill everything the ATI drivers try to do. If you are running SuSE 9.0, then let SuSE & Sax2 do everything for you as that card is supported in 9.0, even 3D! All of the later kernels, 2.4.21 from SuSE contain the fglrx ATI module already, so there is no real need to use the ATI drivers now. I have it running OK on SuSE 9.0 x86_64 Acer Aspire 1501LCe laptop ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 no problems, so I wouldn't see any problems running it on a 32-bit box. Up to kernel 2.6.5-mm6 from kernel.org. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer Linux Only Shop.
Many thanks to all who responded. Bottom line - with SuSE 9, the ATO 9600 is detected and runs. Older than SuSE 9 requires walking thru the readmes. /Hans
