Suse 10.1 not writing DVD's
Hi, I'm trying all day to record a single DVD on 10.1, and it just does not work. I booted to my 10.0 partition, and could burn the DVD with no problems. Here is K3B log. I'm trying to burn a iso to a DVD disk using a new LG dvd recorder: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- System ----------------------- K3b Version: 0.12.15 KDE Version: 3.5.2 Level "a" QT Version: 3.3.5 Kernel: 2.6.16.16-default Devices ----------------------- HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A JL02 (/dev/hdc, ) at [CD-R; CD-RW; CD-ROM; DVD-ROM; DVD-RAM; DVD-R; DVD-RW; DVD-R DL; DVD+R; DVD+RW; DVD+R DL] [DVD-ROM; DVD-R Seqüencial; DVD-R de Dupla Camada Seqüencial; Salto no DVD-R de Dupla Camada; DVD-RAM; Sobrescrita Restrita de DVD-RW; DVD-RW Seqüencial; DVD+RW; DVD+R; DVD+R de Dupla Camada; CD-ROM; CD-R; CD-RW] [SAO; TAO; RAW; SAO/R96P; SAO/R96R; RAW/R16; RAW/R96P; RAW/R96R; Sobrescrita Restrita; Salto da Camada] Used versions ----------------------- growisofs: 6.1 growisofs ----------------------- Executing 'builtin_dd if=/arquivos/dvd/dupla.iso of=/dev/hdc obs=32k seek=0' /dev/hdc: FEATURE 21h is not on, engaging DAO... /dev/hdc: reserving 2125056 blocks /dev/hdc: "Current Write Speed" is 4.1x1385KBps. 0/4352114688 ( 0.0%) @0x, remaining ??:?? did you try cdrecord or growisofs alone? on my 10.0 k3b can't write a given make of dvd+r. commandline works. I can see that it needs many retries to get the writting to start and k3b gave up too quickly. (others kinds ov dvd write without problem - I didn't have time to test 10.1) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

I just burned the 10.1 i386 DVD iso on my 10.1 (oss built from CDs) x86_64 system using k3b. It's a Memorex multi-format DVD burner. -Alain.

Even with 10.0, I kept making coasters with the built in cd/dvd burner, but I bought a memorex external usb2 cd/dvd burner, and it always works perfectly with k3b, making CDs and DVDs. So definitely a recommendation to check out the memorex external. Joe

My Memorex is internal; though I'd be surprised if there was a difference between the two, short of the external enclosure. I'm loading 10.1 (i386) on a system right now, I'll do a test burn on that. It has a different drive manufacturer. I don't remember which one; it's down stairs doing the install as I type and I'm far too lazy to walk down there and pull the cover off to look. -Alain
