[opensuse] all threads on one page
Hello: 1. How could I make all the threads of this list visible on one page (for the selected month)? Like before on the SLE/suse- linux-e list. A remark: The view of this new list is very ugly in my browser (opera 9.02). The letters are too big and in the case of the messages' body they are ugly too. I haven't changed the settings of my browser. probably not possible with all the FUD.

I do not care about spams and FUDs but would like to have all the posts on one page. It is much easier to search for specific topics if all of them are one page. You have to press CTRL+F only once. Right now you have to do this 14 times as the posts are spread onto 14 pages and 'till the end of the month this number might be 20 or higher.

Well, I have set my browser so that most of the web pages - almost all - look nice with letters reasonably sized. The new suse list site belongs to the rare exceptions unfortunately. If I reset my browser to use smaller letters then at other sites the letters will be too small. I also would find it easier to search the archives if they were all on one page or at least provide a method like Google does and let the user set the number of items per page. Its a mailing list. Read it with a mail reader, not a web browser. Subscribe as a normal user and stop using a browser as your only tool. When the only tool you know how to use is a hammer, you tend to look at all problems as if they were mails. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

I do it. If I didn't I could not post to the list. Not?
Subscribe as a normal user and stop using a browser as
your only tool.
If I used only mail reader(s) then I should make mail accounts on every computer I want to acces the list from. It would be at least 4-5 computers. Are you really saying that I should download the same content to all of these different computers and store the thousands of mails on them just for being able to search for a few threads? And the point is that with the old system it worked well. This old system was replaced by another one that may work much better in other contexts but in this context it just inferior to the previous one. Okay i think i need to work on the search engine a bit more. Are there any specific criteria you would like to limit the search for[1]? For now i have From Subject Year & Month Do we need more? I just tried to test this functionality in the search box on <http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/> but couldn't get it to work reliably. For example, if I type your surname I get at least some of the mails you have written. If I type my surname, I don't get any. If I type "No subscribe link on opensuse" I get seven hits, but none of them is the mail with that subject that you sent on 10 Nov. Is there some help somewhere that describes what I should be able to type into that box? Sorry, my mail wasn't accurate. I meant that I can't get the existing search box to work properly just typing in some strings (see my previous message), not any of the new special field stuff. According to my experinece search functions at opensuse site don't work well. For example the search in the SDB is absolutely useless. Therefore I did not expect to work 'search' on this list and I did not try. Recently I gave a try with my first name and my last name and none of the searches gave a hit with my posts. So it seems this search function does not work either as I expected. Yes, that's the same problem I see. It works for Henne's names, for example, but not for my surname :( And it apparently only returns some of the hits I expect for other search words. Because it is possible then to use the browser search function to find a particular message, for instance. I would like very much having all the messages in a single page.
