Okay, seems that my box has some hardware problems, how can i monitor my AMD CPUs temperature. I had a look at lm_sensors but it seems that it dosent report the correct temp. what iam looking for is some kind of log facility that can log all the strange reboots/hangs that my machine suffers from. Ive changed the cpu speed from 1ghz to 750mhz in the bios setup, this has help a bit but it is still to buggy. please help me out, nego

It is configurable. Are you sure you have it set for your MBs sensor chips?

They are all already logged in /var/log/messages. You could set up a cron job to regularly send you the output of sensors to check on trends, etc.

IMHO, if this helped you have a bad cooling arrangement in your box. You should make sure there are adequate paths for air to circulate, such as make sure the cables are routed to not block air flow. Many ATX power supplies have extra ventilation holes in the area of the processor to help exhaust the hot air around the CPU. If yours don't, consider adding some. Your box should have a better CPU fan, AND at least one or two extra case fans, another to exhaust hot air out the back, and maybe an intake fan in the bottom front. This should help greatly, unless there has been damage done already. BTW, adequate cooling applies to ALL CPUs, Intel, AMD, etc. FYI, we have a server running SuSE8.0 24/7 in Manila, Philippines (where it is always hot :-) ), and we only run the aircon during office hours. The CPU temp, will sometimes climb to 51C, but normally 45-48C, with an AMD socket A processor. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM.
