Hi All
I have my Linux box set to configure the NIC using DHCP. Sometimes when I start my linux box the DHCP server is not running and so the NIC is configured later when / if the DHCP server is booted, no problems here. The problem I have is that if the DHCP server is not running Samba does not start, which is correct. What I need is some way of automatically starting Samba as soon as the NIC is configured. Does anyone have any ideas how to do this please.
Use a script that looks if the NIC is configuerd or not. Start it at boottime.
I would actually suggest making use of the ip-up and ip-down scripts. That way when your ip address get assigned you can have it start Samba and you can setup ip-down to stop Samba for you cleanly if for some reason you turn off networking. This idea seems to fit thebill exactly. Do you happen to know where these script files are kept on V8.0. I've had a good look and there are plenty of ifup- ifdown- scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts but none for ipup or ipdown. Stewart On Thursday 16 January 1997 20:50, Austin Morgan wrote:
