RE: [SLE] Strange Apache error
Hi,
From: Olle Viksten [mailto:olle@viksten.com] As of June 9 my apache has started to behave strange. I first noticed it when I was trying to access it locally. Apache was dead. tried to restart it and then checked status - running. I tried to connect once again and failed. Checked status again - dead.
Did you check the system log? What is in /var/log/messages?
I can restart apache but as soon as anyone tries to access it it dies.
The only error I found in the errorlog, besides astale pid, was: [warn] Apache does not support line-end comments. Consider using quotes around argument: "# crossover"
You can check your configuration with 'apachectl configtest' - it prints out the warning and the acording line number
I've tried to find this offending argument in various configuratin files, in /etc/httpd /etc/sysconfig...
Did you check for .htaccess files? They also contain configuration directives.
AFAIK I've made no changes to any configs before June 9
Does anyone have any idea what is going on.
What changes have been made before June 9? Did your apache binaries change since then? Is anything else behaving strangely on your system? In other words - have you been rooted? regards, Stefan

Yes, nothing about appache there.

It says that the syntax is OK

I don't have any.
What changes have been made before June 9?
I made some upgrades with apt-get but nothing that should have any effect on apache. I also changed the index.html in the server root. I looked at it and couldn't find anything strange in it.

I just downloaded the latest chkrootkit and ran it. Nothing suspiscious. Olle

Open /srv/www/htdocs/index.html in a browser a local file, ie: file:///srv/www/htdocs/index.html Maybe you have a syntax problem in index.html that you are overlooking and will appear in your browser. ?? <grasping straws> -- Patrick Shanahan Please avoid TOFU and trim >quotes< http://wahoo.no-ip.org Registered Linux User #207535 icq#173753138 @ http://counter.li.org Linux, a continuous *learning* experience

I've allready tried that and it works just fine. I've also tried going straight to another URL in my server after restarting apache. It still dies.
