Hey Group; Sorry about the length of the lower portion. Any clues? I have a USB Lexar Jump Drive that is seen by "lsusb" but fails to mount. I have looked at /proc, hwinfo and dumb luck and have come up with it as /dev/sda1 (which is a block dev shown in /dev). However, it will not mount. mount clains it is not a valid block device What is and where is "/block/sda" Using > # hwinfo | grep sda UnixDevice=/dev/sda UnixDeviceList=/dev/sda /dev/disk/by-path/usb-33000001217000002612:0:0:0 /dev/disk/by-id/LEXAR-JUMPDRIVE_SPORT SysfsID=/block/sda UnixDevice=/dev/sda UnixDeviceList=/dev/sda /dev/disk/by-path/usb-33000001217000002612:0:0:0 /dev/disk/by-id/LEXAR-JUMPDRIVE_SPORT SysfsID=/block/sda UnixDevice=/dev/sda1 UnixDeviceList=/dev/sda1 /dev/disk/by-path/usb-33000001217000002612:0:0:0p1 /dev/disk/by-id/LEXAR-JUMPDRIVE_SPORT1 SysfsID=/block/sda/sda1 P: /block/sda/sda1 N: sda1 P: /block/sda N: sda /block/sda/sda1 name: sda1 /block/sda name: sda SysFS ID: /block/sda Device Files: /dev/sda, /dev/disk/by-path/usb-33000001217000002612:0:0:0, /dev/disk/by-id/LEXAR-JUMPDRIVE_SPORT SysFS ID: /block/sda Device Files: /dev/sda, /dev/disk/by-path/usb-33000001217000002612:0:0:0, /dev/disk/by-id/LEXAR-JUMPDRIVE_SPORT SysFS ID: /block/sda/sda1 Device Files: /dev/sda1, /dev/disk/by-path/usb-33000001217000002612:0:0:0p1, /dev/disk/by-id/LEXAR-JUMPDRIVE_SPORT1 -- 73 de Donn Washburn __" http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 Dump Microsoft Software - Stop virus email Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org " http://counter.li.org " #279316
Sorry about the length of the lower portion. Any clues?

Simple question, but have you already formatted the jump drive? I know that when I bought my USB thumb drive I had to format it before I could mount the drive. If it's been formatted under Windows or Linux then it's another problem...just thought I would mention this in case your drive was a new one. Reasonable question! Thanks for asking
I believe it to be formatted with a FAT fs. It shows up under Fedora
Core 2 and 3 and Winblows. However, SuSE 9.2 with kernel 2.6.9 from
kernel.org and all modules mounted fails. hwinfo sees it. lsusb sees
it. mount /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 (which I created) fails.
I have tried mount -t fstype and the above line - no luck.
