[opensuse] firefox vs. mozillafirefox
All, I see in the buildservice both Firefox 3 B5 and MozillaFirefox 3 B5 are available, but they have different build levels. ie. 2.9.95-3.1 vs. 2.9.95-2.3 Anyone know what the difference is and why I would pick one over the other. Not sure here, but i would think if you installed MozillaFirefox, it would replace your present version (i.e. it would upgrade since it is the same name), whereas firefox is a different name and could probably be installed parallel to the 2.0.0.x versions. Not sure though. I installed the MozillaFirefox version, replacing my 2.0.0.12 version, and have been overall satisfied. Some nice new features in 3. Only problem I had so far was trying to print out an e-ticket from Northwest. The MozillaFirefox package is the one to use in most cases so it's the normal upgrade path. The (temporary) firefox package is for users where MozillaFirefox does not work because of the following reason: MozillaFirefox is built with a lot of runtime dependencies on other packages. So if you would try to run MozillaFirefox as 32bit on your 64bit system it wouldn't work since the buildservice is not able to create baselibs-32 packages yet. This combination should work with upcoming openSUSE 11.0 though since it hopefully will have all needed baselibs available. MozillaFirefox and firefox are conflicting packages and both will replace a Firefox 2.0 installation. No parallel installation possible, sorry. The release numbers will always differ since firefox will have less rebuilds because of dependencies and needs other patching. I'll keep them as close as possible as long as it exists. It will go away when the buildservice supports baselibs32 packages. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
