Are there any rpms for qt 1.40 for Suse 5.2 yet? I've tried to compile the source and get errors after about 10 minutes into make. Someone better step up and lay out standard libraries for diff. linux distro's or else linux is bound to fail. ( as a newbie to linux<about two monthes> i'm already disgusted with every program asking for a trip to the ftp world for another lib file.) I'd like to see distributions let you upload your source and config file.......compile your binary and send it back to you. Maybe i'm just wishing for to much from linux...but joe smo will NEVER download a new lib everytime he wants to try out a new program. What kind of errors did you get? Maybe someone else on the list can help. I compiled qt 1.40 without incident on my machine so I know it can be compiled. What compiler did you use? -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Everything you need is on your S.u.S.E. discs. Don't get pissed at linux because you neglected to install some package that you probably have on cd. You are new to linux, and in time this won't be a problem for you. I _never_ have a compile fail due to a missing dependency. For one thing, 9/10 times you can avoid your situation if you read the documentation of the package you are trying to compile. If this seems like too much work, then by all means stick with rpms. Rpm is designed to take the pain out of the equation for new users. Eddie wrote:

I went to the Caldera FTP site and downloaded their RPM's for QT 1.40, then installed them (using YaST) without any problems. Caldera has not gone to glibc6 yet. No compiling was necessary. They were already in binary format, I guess. ------------------------------------------- Man's mind is his basic tool of survival! If you are unsure of a foreign rpm's install path you can always make a test tgz with Alien. I may have sounded harsh before, I didn't mean to. You know, when you are having a problem compiling something you can always post the output from when it bails and I or someone else on the list can nudge you in the right direction. -- .###. /#######\## -==============================================- ;##### ;# Mike's WindowMaker ;##### ;# <A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org/windowmaker.html"><A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org/windowmaker.html</A">http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org/windowmaker.html</A</A>> \# /## -==============================================- ###'---'#### - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

As well as all the extra little goodies that you get when you can compile it your self and use what switches and options that are best applicable to your system:-)-- cya l8r Leon McClatchey leonmcclatchey@homemail.com Linux User 78912 (Win95 Box) - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Being a newbie was no excuse for triple posting. My apologies. Eddie - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Oh, I don't know. Whether it's an excuse or not, it's the best explanation. Besides, it's not the person apologising's place to decide whether the explanation is an excuse, that's left to the person being apologised to. On Sun, 30 Aug 1998, Eddie wrote:

Eddie, The Trolls have an rpm for RH4 and RH5. If you are still having trouble compiling go grab the one you need. I believe S.u.S.E. 5.2 wants HR4 and 5.3 wants 5.3. <A HREF="http://www.troll.no/dl/qt-1.40-1rh4.i386.rpm.html"><A HREF="http://www.troll.no/dl/qt-1.40-1rh4.i386.rpm.html</A">http://www.troll.no/dl/qt-1.40-1rh4.i386.rpm.html</A</A>> HTH Steve Eddie wrote:
