Frontpage redesign - call for proposals.
Are you looking at putting your personal touch on this community? Do you want to help capture new visitors to opensuse.org? And make it easier for us all to find information on the opensuse.org pages? Create your ideas of the new front page and add a link on: http://en.opensuse.org/Frontpage_redesign We also need everybody to provide constructive criticisms of the proposals. As propsosals become more mature, some translations would also be good, especially if the original is not in English. Peter 'Pflodo' Flodin.

I think the two present proposals (your and the german one) are two different things and the two must be addressed. 1) we need a international hub on "www.opensuse.org" or "opensuse.org" to give a chance to the visitor to go to the good language one 2) we anyway must have a design for the sub-front page. and this sub one must be done with internationalization in mind. It's nearly impossible to ensure an up to date translation of frequently changed pages, at least in the present situation (22000 registered users in en, but only 60 inf much younger fr, 184 in de, 70 in es :-), news are much better if localized - it's a reason for local Novell co links (having local news before the others :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Peter Flodin's design is just a component; the German page is a full page design. Gotta keep that in mind :) Joseph M. Gaffney aka CuCullin

So can we use it to design the openSUSE page?

Would you like some Wine with that ActiveX? You must have a different Outlook(tm) on things, I thought it was an Excel(tm)lent Word(tm). Peter 'Pflodo' Flodin

Sure we can, if we want to make Microsoft more proud. :-)

Good that it is allowed to use trademarks to make fun of product names. :-) But it should be forbidden to use general terms as program names. cheers, Jw. -- o \ Juergen Weigert paint it green! __/ _=======.=======_ <V> | jw@suse.de wide open suse_/ _---|____________\/ \ | 0911 74053-508 (tm)__/ (____/ /\ (/) | __________________________/ _/ \_ vim:set sw=2 wm=8

Exactly. It could possibly be incorporated into a frontpage. It could be modified and used as as a splash screen on www.opensuse.org. My personal opionion is that www.opensuse.org should automatically redirect to the language your browser is requesting. If it doesn't exist, then en.opensuse.org. The listing of all the wikis with a logo in the middle, is just as much marketing as a navigation tool. It is to show that the opening line of opensuse.org is true "The openSUSE project is a worldwide community program..." Peter 'Pflodo' Flodin

We'll try to make this work as soon as we are back from FOSDEM ;) Regards Christoph

right don't forget also that a main page should not be to big. all what is under the screen is prone to not be seen... jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos
