[opensuse] Question about joe.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, Is it possible to tell joe so that by default it does not wrap around long lines? It is a nuisance when I edit configuration files, I get broken files. It is the ctrl-O-W command in "jstar" mode, I have to remember to issue it on every file I open. I think it should be the "/etc/joe/jstarrc file. There is a line: -wordwrap Wordwrap I have tried: --wordwrap Wordwrap - -wordwrap Wordwrap - --wordwrap Wordwrap -wordwrap Wordwrap --wordwrap Wordwrap none works. The instructions say: Put each option you want set in the first column: -option<------>Sets the option --option<----->Clears the option but it doesn't work. Any ideas? - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Is it possible to tell joe so that by default it does not wrap around long lines? It is a nuisance when I edit configuration files, I get broken files.
works for me, see below
It is the ctrl-O-W command in "jstar" mode, I have to remember to issue it on every file I open.
I think it should be the "/etc/joe/jstarrc file. There is a line:
-wordwrap Wordwrap
I have tried:
--wordwrap Wordwrap -wordwrap Wordwrap --wordwrap Wordwrap -wordwrap Wordwrap --wordwrap Wordwrap
none works. The instructions say:
Put each option you want set in the first column:
-option<------>Sets the option --option<----->Clears the option
this is somewhat misleading as I read it.
but it doesn't work.
Any ideas?
WhiteSpace in front of an option disables that option, ie: -will.not.be.active -will be active so: -wordrap //should disable wordwrap and does for me, but I use joe and ~/.joerc rather than jstar. Still have most of the wordstar keysenquences. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I tried both yesterday, non worked. I'm trying it now, it does not work.
so:
-wordrap //should disable wordwrap
and does for me, but I use joe and ~/.joerc rather than jstar. Still have most of the wordstar keysenquences.
It does not work for jstar. I have also tried creating a ~/.jstar file with the single line: - -wordwrap Wordwrap and it will not admit the file, there are missing sections or whatever. I have tried editing /etc/joe/joerc, same result. It is ignored regarding wordwrap, but if I put the line wordwrap Wordwrap in /etc/joe/jstarrc it says there is an error. So, the line is read, but it does not work :-/ - -- Cheers, Carlos E. note that my quote char string is "> " in ~/.joerc -wordwrap should enable wordwrap, note no whitespace before "-wordwrap" -wordwrap should *disable* wordwrap, note whitespace exists The "-" is required. And I now understand: Put each option you want set in the first column: -option Sets the option --option Clears the option -option begins the option "-option" in the first column whereas --option begins the option "-option" in the second column and disables it It's all clear as mud when you finally see it :^) --wordwrap and -wordwrap accomplish the same thing, they move "-wordwrap" *off* the first column. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ok :-)
in ~/.joerc
-wordwrap should enable wordwrap, note no whitespace before "-wordwrap"
-wordwrap should *disable* wordwrap, note whitespace exists
The "-" is required.
Right. As a matter of fact, the default is: -wordwrap Wordwrap Ie, on the second column (an entire "tab"), so it should be dissabled by default. But in fact, the editor has it enabled be default. And yes, I tried with 8 spaces instead of the tab, one space, two dashes... none works. Always wraps.
And I now understand:
Put each option you want set in the first column:
-option Sets the option --option Clears the option
-option begins the option "-option" in the first column whereas --option begins the option "-option" in the second column and disables it
It's all clear as mud when you finally see it :^)
Right...
--wordwrap and -wordwrap
accomplish the same thing, they move "-wordwrap" *off* the first column.
Ah. The theory is good... but it does not work here :-( - -- Cheers, Carlos E. You are correct, I find the same behavour. I also find that the right margin defaults to column 77 and cannot be disabled. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=460767 -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
