Re: [SLE] Antivir with Mozilla Mail
I'm actually not using Firefox / Thunderbird; I'm using Mozilla. A while back, I had an incident... When running chkrootkit, it claimd to have found the LKM Trojan and "one hidden process." I did a complete reinstall because I just wasn't sure that this could be corrected reliably since apparently it was a rootkit. Of course, it could have been a false positive or some sort of system hiccup, but, I don't thnk so. The reason I ran chkrootkit was because my system suddenly became slow and BDC didn't find anything. I don't knpw what I could have done to expose myself... I'm even behind a hardware firewall (AlphaShield). Now I'm super paranoid. John Meyer wrote:

Is there a way to configure Antivir to scan incoming and outgoing email for Mozilla Mail on SuSE 10.0 Boxed Ed? I've tried using KMail with Konqueror but, there seems to be an integration issue. When I try to send a li nk from Konqueror, it claims I haven't set an Identity even though when I check, my identity is already set. I don't run into this issue when sending from KMail directly, only when sending a file from Konqueror. Besides, I'm more comfortible with the Mozilla Suite. I did Google this topic and I wasn't able to find what I need.
There are virii on Firefox for Linux?

You will not activate any virus coming by email (acepting they target linux) unless you "execute" them. Don't click on sight on anything you get. Make sure you have not activated javascript in mail in mozilla; it is in the security settings somewhere. It is also safer to view email in text mode, ie, with a non html capable MUA. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDw5swtTMYHG2NR9URAjYlAJ9GvcGOiV7SuvP7eXx6xIEsTZ3gTQCffdZ8 us+zqDgf20Su5c8hZ+YNjoQ= =TcAi -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Hi Carlos! Thant's good advice! I did as you said. JavaScript is under Advanced. I disabled JS for both email and Navigator, and disabled the ability to install updates...just in case. For the rare sight where I must use JavaScript, I'll use Konqueror. Thank you! -Joe G. Carlos E. R. wrote:

Welcome! But that's not exactly what I meant. If you are afraid of js in the web, you should not use it anywhere, not mozilla, nor konkeror. Or in other words, it is probably as safe to use mozilla or to use konkeror. What I meant was to disable javascript in email (only in email), which is something not really needed for anything, and can be really dangerous (I have received spam with js). Then, whether to leave java enabled in the navigators is another issue. As to the updates in mozilla, I don't know if they work. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDxEZJtTMYHG2NR9URAo/uAKCEGmyn2lktEZ4pr4aeCcx8NkzFOACfc2FH z62rnUffUGY5hpzxFfKhW+E= =92tn -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
I guess I should have been more specific. For casual net surfing, I'll use Mozilla with JAVA and JavaScript disabled. But, there are some sites where it might be necessary. For instance, I'm taking night school classes and sometimes I need to interface with the school's server. I might need JAVA or JS for that or other specific sites that I more or less need to trust. I'll keep one default high security browser and one default low security browser. -Joe
