Does anyone know what might cause the install to hang and make the keyboard blink during an FTP install? I am installing SuSe 8.1 on a machine and I have tried several times to get it loaded but it fails and locks up never on the same package but always around 75%-80% of the total install. I have plenty of disk space on the machine I am installing to. I have ruled out network since I have another machine that installed fine, maybe a hardware issue? Thanks in Advanced... Sean

Your case is way more difficult as you are installing by FTP, but it has been commented here a lot (search the list archives). Also, have a look at the sdb (keyword "crash"), play with the apic, apm, vpic settings, and barrier=none (for reiserfs in etc/fstab). There is also a kernel patch. But you need a running system... Perhaps create a local mirror by ftp and install a minimun system from it, then stabilise. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
