8.0 Konq crashes entering .dir/subdir
Has anyone else seen this: Wanted to see some kde config stuff. Open Konq as filemanager. Show dot-files. Open ~/.kde, then open ~/.kde/share <crash> Tried it a couple times, always the same. Tried some others, and it seems like trying to open *any* subdir to *any* .dir crashes Konq... It doesn't happen if I use Konq as "webbrowser" (without the sidebar) which I find rather curious... Anyway: When it dies, up comes the crashhandler, but it just spews out lines of "No debugging symbols found" (or similar)... What's the name of that debugging util, that I didn't install yet? ..."gbd" or something? TIA Jon Clausen -- .signature ;)

gdb. But gdb need debugging symbols as well. -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. P. J.

Works For Me :) What version of kde are you using? //Anders -- I swear I do declare - how did you get that there?

Well "good for you" ;)

Stock 3.0 that comes with 8.0... That is: I'm in 7.3 right now, 'cause I haven't yet got mail set up quite right in 8.0... It's getting there, but I still need to train Mutt s'more... I'll go into 8.0 and install gdb, see if that turns up anything... If it does, I'll let you know... Jon -- .signature ;)

If you mean the default that is included on the CD/DVD, the upgrade immediately. You'll find many things fixed. There are a few things in YOU, and many more in the supplementary packages. Also, gdb won't help you get debugging information from a crash. You'll have to recompile the lot and turn on debugging. //Anders -- I swear I do declare - how did you get that there?

Right... thanks for that. I'll get on it right away.

Ahhh, *that's* what Mads meant :) Good thing I saw this message before I went and wasted my time... This begs the question though: What good is the crashhandler if you need to recompile <insert apps> before you get anything out of it? Or rather: Some sort of message explaining this would be nice... Oh well, that's for KDE to decide... Jon Clausen -- .signature ;)

Went there, did that... didn't help :(

Well, it does actually kind of give some output. Apparently it's the sidebar that's not handling the dotfiles too well. Teratam's suggestion seems sound, and I'll try that next. But it's a problem, and I guess I'd better file a bug-report with KDE Greets Jon Clausen -- .signature ;)
