Hello! I am really newbie to linux and done most probably catastrophic thing! I must be really dumb since by trying to delete with Konqueror in Super User mode some libs from /usr/lib I apparently deleted whole directory. However, never selected it for deletion!!! Currently, I stopped working with anything and would like to try to recover from that accindent - any ideas how to that? My trash is empty!!! Jacek

This is a very critical directory since the libraries in /usr/lib are essentially required for many applications. Fortunately in Linux, the most critical

please excuse comment :- it is a good idea, to have a complete system, backed-up with, say " rsync " , on a separate partition . . . then, if/when such an unfortunate event strikes, it is is easy to recover -- best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________
Hello Pinto! thanx for productive comment :

it really solved my problem. Jacek PS. you may not know that I run my SuSE 9.1 as guest OS in VMware on Windows XP - there is even better option for that: "revert to snapshot" which means that your system is restored to the point your made the snapshot, even mouse cursor position at the begining. So I have done it but it did not recover my lost work which was first compiled and than tested and than installed in /usr/lib for further testing. ANYWAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH! -----Original Message----- From: pinto [mailto:pinto45@aig.forthnet.gr] Sent: Sunday, July 25, 2004 5:34 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Urgent - deleted usr/lib - total catastrphic event!!! You didn't tell us what version of SUSE Linux you are using. I'm assuming it is either 9.0 or 9.1. Boot from the SUSE CD/DVD and start "Installation" from the boot menu. after choosing the language you will get a dialog box that offers (amongst other things) a System Repair mode. Choose that. It should fix it. Greetings from Bremen hartmut
