* if UEFI, go to firmware and choose what system you want I suppose this is just another example of my stupidity, but
a) how do I know if it's UEFI? Neither lshw nor dmidecode shows that acronym. Because you should know.
MOBO is ASROC H310CM-HDV/M.2 in a computer about 1-1/2 years old. Then it is UEFI.
b) Let's say it does use UEFI, how do I "go to firmware?" How did you go to BIOS on old machines? Same thing. Press certain key some number of seconds after powering up. The book you got with the machine (or the MOBO) should say.
The machine was bought from Micro Center on Long Island, and came
with nothing but a receipt. But with any sort of luck, I can find a poopsheet on the
MOBO with Google. Don't give me that crap.
ftp://asrockchina.com.cn/Manual/H310CM-HDVM.2.pdf
20 seconds to find it.
4.10 Boot Screen
This section displays the available devices on your system for you to configure the boot settings and the boot priority.
Thanx, Carlos. I looked for about an hour for that manual, and everything I touched wanted me to sign up for something or download something I don't want. I was looking from Windows, since that's the machine that can print. As I said, Micro Center did not provide any user data at all, so I will certainly download this and print it out.
It's an FTP site, I don't see how it can ask you anything. It is not a web page. Unless you forgot to type the "ftp://..." part. It is not "http://..." I will email you the PDF.
As to the bios--I wasn't thinking of the window you can get from starting on F2-- I didn't realize that it can sequence the boots, even tho I have used it to boot a CD with a new OS on it. I only spent a few minutes with it, but it looks like it only wants to sequence TWO of the three os on the machine. Maybe a bit more time will help me.
Very early at the start of the machine boot sequence, you will see a message that goes out fast that says something like press F1 to enter setup, press F10 for boot options. It varies a lot. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.2 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))
