This is something I've noticed for a while (over several versions of KDE)... and it's finally bugging me enough to ask about it. When I add an application that adds things to the KMenu, sometimes they don't show up until after a restart of KDE. Case in point. I've installed CrossOver Office (in SuSE9.0), and Office2000... and the Windows Applications menu item doesn't show up. If I open the menu editor, it's there in the editor, and if I restart KDE it will probably show up... maybe. What gives? Why do some things show up immediately in the KMenu, and others never do? Is there soem way I've missed to force a reload of the KMenu without a restart of KDE (logout/login.. whatever)? C.

run kbuildsycoca or execute "dcop Kicker Panel restart" kbuildsycoca (sycoca system communication cache), which caches all menu's. These are normally rebuild automatically. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

kbuildsycoca and dcop kicker Panel restart didn't work. I messed abotu in the menu, and moved the "Windows Applications" menu item inot the Office menu, and did a dcop restart and it showed up. Moved it back to the root of the KMenu, and it disappeared again. Dunno why it won't work in the root, but is fine in a sub menu. Moved it back to the office submenu - which is where i prefer it to be anyway. Thanks for the tip on the dcop thing. C.

It partly depends on whether the app you install sets up KDE menu entries. If it does then all well and good - otherwise you'll need to use the menu editor to add them manually on a per user basis. There must be a way to add them to the system-wide menu, but I don't know what it is. Dylan
