I am using kernal 2.2.16 with Suse 7.0. I installed a PCI modem tonight while I'm trying to work out some other issues regarding ADSL use. When I do command lspci -v my modem is recognized as one of the hardware items plugged into my motherboard. Yet, when I run YaST2, I receive a message stating that a modem device could not be found. I found an article on the net that said, "The 2.2.x series of the linux kernel does not support serial ports on PCI devices at the time of this writing (approx. June 2000). In other words, the 2.2.x series does not support PCI modems." Is this correct? My motherboard has no ISA slots, so do I have to purchase an external modem if I want to connect? Does kernel 2.4 recognize serial ports on PCI devices, specifically modems? Thank you for your time. Mike Flug michael.flug@snet.net
