Need java-plugin advice. I'm using Suse 8.1, Mozilla 1.0.1. When I visit certain site I get the following message... "This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-vm) that can only be viewed with the appropriate plug-in...Click OK to download" I click OK, go to a Netscape page and select Java 2 Linux plug-in, a long download occurs but the install fails with "access denied". How can I get this plugin installed? Should I go directly to Sun and find the download? Should I go to Suse to see if they supply one for 8.1? What is the difference between the run-time environment and the plug-in and do I need both? Should I use the self extracting or RPM? Please advise! Thanks, Matt
You need to install as root, that's probably causing the acces denied error. Chances are, that the jre has been already installed on your system. Look for a directory like /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.2/jre (could be lower version, I'm at Suse 9.0) If you have that, it is already there. What you should do then is make a symbolic link link in the Mozilla plugin directory to the jre plugin library: su cd /opt/mozilla/plugins ln -s /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so exit Always assuming you have a standard tree. I'm sure the jre is in the distro somewhere. Best regards, Jos van Kan. On Thursday 20 May 2004 16:54, Matt Stamm wrote:
