Nope...DVD #1 stalls at same point "YaST2 Evaluating package selection" . Can't do anything from this point. Whats this about a DVD bug and combo drives?? This is obviously not a scratched disc issue.

Yes -- that is similar to the 8.1 bug -- the solution is listed on: Title SDB: Installing SuSE Linux 8.1: No Package Selection Available URL http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/mlasars_8.1_dvdinstall.html My laptop exhibited the bug on 8.1, but I haven't gotten around to upgrading it to 8.2 -- on 8.1 I accidentally hit upon one of the solutions they mention: Alternatively, you can also select "Abort Installation" both in the current menu and in the subsequent window to access linuxrc. Once in linuxrc, press Enter three times to restart the installation process. [end quote] They haven't many bugs listed on: Title SDB: Known Problems and Special Features in SuSE Linux 8.2 URL http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/bugs82.html But you might look through for 8.1 leftovers on: Title SDB: Known Problems and Special Features in SuSE Linux 8.1 URL http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/bugs81.html Hope this helps.
I have a working CDRW for backup thats enough. What I need is recommendation for a simple DVD player / installer so I can load on my box and do network installs for friends. Nothing fancy or expensive is needed. The box is a P3 / 533 with 256 mb on a SOYO MB with a 40g WD 5400rpm, PS 400w, NIC w RealTec chipset, & External modem. On IDE1 the master is the WD on a caddy the slave is also caddy mounted but not generally and is 5400rpm. On IDE2 the master is the CDRW LiteON 40x12x48. Can these DVD handle being on IDE2 slave? Have I got enough memory? Currently all hardware working on winblows 98. I intend to move the winblows to a drive of its own and dedicate the WD to Linux perhaps multibooting RH or Mandrake after Suse.
