Re: [SLE] Gaim 0.75 configure and SuSE 8.2
Charles,
Did you actually install GTK from gtk.org? I did last night. Had some hiccups to successfully getting (on SuSE 8.1) GTK installed, but managed to pull it off. However, I'm seeing the same thing.
One possible problem came to my mind at work today though--and maybe this is your problem:
Do you possibly have "competing" .la and .so files in your /usr/lib and /usr/local/lib directories. I had that
problem with trying to install GTK and as soon as I moved the "competing", earlier version files from .la to .la.bak and .so files from .so to .so.bak, everything worked like a charm.
Anyway, just a thought while I'm sitting here.
Please let me know if you figure out the solution, because I have the same problem.
Thanks,
wmeler

Try installing pango and pango-devel before compiling gaim.
Alex
Thanks Alex, but still a no go. I pulled the pango-devel package off of 8.2's CDs and configure still complained about my not having GTK+ 2.0 or greater. It's got to be something simple. I don't think I can help. I installed GTK from the 8.2 Pro CD's. My first couple of tries missed some libraries such as pango, pango-devel, atk and atk-devel which were on the CD's. I installed these and was able to perform a configure and make. Scott Jones had given me a link to _His_ rpms, so I stopped there. I used his RPMS as I'm still not up to speed on where some things go and haven't figured out how to look in SUSE's source RPMS to see what compile/config options they used. ( http://scott.exti.net/files.html is the link). Wish I could be of more help. When 0.76 comes out, I'll try again. Strangely enough, this gave me enough to be able to upgrade dia, a flow charting/uml/diagram maker to the latest and greatest and install it with no problems. A minor victory. Charlie

If you do "rpm -i package.src.rpm", you will find (package name).spec in /usr/src/packages/SPECS. This will (usually) have the configure/build options in it. Otherwise, you can use Midnight Commander to look inside and extract individual files from RPMs. A good reference, though slightly dated, can be found in "Maximum RPM", which is published by Sams. You can also find it online at rpm.org.
