OK, but the name part is where I stumble and fall. (Excuse me for this trivial question...) I my case, when I surf to the JetDirect, I can see a "system information" page which tells me several different pieces of information, among them the printer's name (HP LaserJet 6P), the system name (NPIC04F8D), the product name (J3258B). I've tried them all to no avail. (I suspect one of them is the right one and I probably have some other problem compounding the whole question.) I would be nice to know which one of these should be used as the queue name? /Lennart -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: James Ogley [mailto:james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk] Skickat: den 18 maj 2001 10:54 Till: suse-linux-e@suse.com Ämne: Re: SV: [SLE] JetDirect
I would be very happy if you just could share the secret of how you configured the JetDirect as lp?
I would tell you, but then I'd have to shoot you ;-) Seriously, the printer was already set up when I started my job here, I just used the Configure Remote Printers pane in YaST1, using the printer's IP for the server name and the name of it as the queue on the server... -- James Ogley, Unix System Administrator, Pinnacle.Net james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk +44 20 8731 3619 Listening to the sound of the coming rain... *********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY. it probably defaults to raw if none is given. I was trying bot raw and text ages ago and left my entries as it worked best... ;-)

Hi James, I guess the paper tray option is a printer driver option. HP-Laserjet 4000 Hmm. Yesterday, I experimented with StarOffice and printer setup. But no further hints from there. Another idea might be to use the printers' setup panel to (re)define the default paper tray, change the paper over (probably to simple) or telnet into the printer and talk to the jet direct card on these matters personally. I think it will end up changing the *default* paper tray and that is not what you realy want.
