Does anyone have any experience using the SuSE firstboot or autoinstall scripts used to automate rolling out images? -- Jason Gerfen jason.gerfen@scl.utah.edu "And remember... If the ladies don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy..." ~The Red Green show

Yeah, that works like Ghost or PowerQuest to make an image from a preconfigured system. This auto-install package for SuSE uses a configuration file written in XML to auto configure the machine prior to the first login. I just need some assistance with the configuration of the XML script to autoconfigure some settings. Brad Bourn wrote:

So is there anyone on this list that can give me some insight into getting the firstboot package to autoconfigure specifics of hardware such as the network adapter? I am looking for specific syntax please... Brad Bourn wrote:

Hello all, I am trying to install firestarter 1.0.3 (http://www.fs-security.com/) on suse 9.1 using the source tarball but am receiving the following error when running ./configure configure: error: gconftool-2 executable not found in your path - should be installed with GConf2 I even used apt-get (usr-local-bin) to update my gconf2 to the following version gconf2-2.8.1-100.SuSE.ulb.1 and my gconftool-2 is present in /opt/gnome/bin. am i missing something here? what ./configure command line option do i need to pass to it to ensure that it sees gconftool-2? thanks in advance for your help Ganesh
Hello all, I am running a Suse 9.2 with Gnome 2.6. I am having trouble getting my USB stick to be mounted as read-write. SuSEPlugger mounts the stick automatically and even opens the browser (nautilus), but keeps crashing nautilus. If I open it with Konqueror then I can definitely read the USB stick but not write to it. Using a terminal tells me that the stick is not read-write mounted. Before I make changes to my fstab is there anything I could to to maintain this automagic USB mount but still have it mount as read-write? surprisingly my digital camera mounts properly, just my usb sticks have a problem. Thanks in advance for your help. Ganesh

You are not the first one I hear complaining of a similar problem, but I don't know the answer. But I was going to mention some other thing: You are hijacking threads, and because of that, your emails get sorted amongst those of last month. It makes more dificult for people to answer your questions. Please, don't hijack. This is what we see: 7208 Feb 3 Jason Gerfen (3038) [SLE] Auto-Install feature? 7209 Feb 3 Brad Bourn (3311) |-> 7210 Feb 3 Jason Gerfen (4035) |-> 7211 Feb 4 Jason Gerfen (3885) |-> N 7212 Feb 5 Ganeshram Iyer (3861) |-[SLE] installing firestarter - * 7213 Mar 17 Ganeshram Iyer (3913) |-[SLE] USB automount rw If you don't know what I'm talking about, it is on this list FAQ: |Q13. I've been accused of 'thread hijacking'! What does that mean? |A13. You probably replied to another post as a new topic. If you aren't | using a threaded mail reader you may not notice how annoying this | is but a quick scroll through the archives on | http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e will give you some examplesi; Look | for threads that suddenly change subject and topic. 'Thread hijacking' | destroys the threading in mail clients and makes archives very hard to | use. If you want to start a new thread, *do not* just reply-all to a | posting you just received. Instead, post a new email to suse-linux-e@suse.com. | Just replying to another post and changing the subject keeps the reference | header intact which is used (usually in combination with the subject | header) to place the message in its context. Better yet, use a mail client | that has a proper 'list reply' function. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
