SPAM: Problem adding printer HP F380 shared through a WindowsXP
Hi all, In my local network I have a Multifunction F380 Printer/Scanner connected to a WindowsXP machine. The printer is shared as a normal printer would be shared. In Yast, I can add a smb networked printer, place the address, login, etc... and choose the Manufacturer HP and the model Deskjet F300 series, witch uses the only available HP-Deskjet_F300-hpijs.ppd.gz. Everything goes well, until I instruct to perform a printer test page ( any of them ). The printer starts working but the document never gets printed, and I need to cancel the document on the Windows machine. It worked well with my old Deskjet 930C. Am I missing something ? I've browsed the Internet and hplip site and found little documentation about smb shared printer. Can anyone help me on this ? Thanks in advance. -- Rui Santos http://www.ruisantos.com/ They that would give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither one of them.

See http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printing_via_SMB_%28Samba%29_Share_or_Windows_Sha... and http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_-_No_Printout_on_the_XP_Client

If it is a driver problem with the new printer, see our online documentation (package suselinux-manual_en) /usr/share/doc/manual/suselinux-manual_en/manual/sec.drucken.prob.html Chapter 11. Printer Operation 11.7. Troubleshooting 11.7.9. Debugging the CUPS Print System or see our support database http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell "If problems are encountered" To verify that the driver works, connect the device directly to the computer (e.g. via USB) and set up a print queue and test if it prints this way. After a few days struggling through the documentation you provided me, without success, I've tried again after a few updates. What was my surprise. It just works... :) I don't know what made it work - probably the update on hplip-hpijs to 1.6.9-5.pm.1 released 3 days ago. I really don't know. Johannes, thanks for all the links you provided me. I found out more how CUPS/Printing/PPD works on these few days, than on my entire Linux experience :-[
