It worked well with my old Deskjet 930C.

To verify that the driver works, connect the device directly to the computer (e.g. via USB) and set up a print queue and test if it prints this way.
After a few days struggling through the documentation you provided me, without success, I've tried again after a few updates. What was my surprise. It just works... :) I don't know what made it work - probably the update on hplip-hpijs to 1.6.9-5.pm.1 released 3 days ago. I really don't know. Johannes, thanks for all the links you provided me. I found out more how CUPS/Printing/PPD works on these few days, than on my entire Linux experience :-[
