Hi
With all my plasma hangs i'm thinking of changing to a radeon as my current card is an old geforce210. Does anyone have any advice about a Radeon HD 5450 - cheap as chips at the moment - but will it work okay with the opensource radeon drivers? A full fat graphics card is not necessary for the stuff i do.
Regards
Ian
Hi Ian
You're in luck; it looks like the 5450 is the oldest card supported by the current open source driver[1]. Thats great news. I think i've got the oldest nvidia one at the moment and it may be showing. :)
To answer your question, yes it's worth it if you care about free software as AMD are far more actively involved in the development of open source drivers than nVidia are. Also if you don't need advanced graphics functionality you can put even more weight on ideology and price when making your decision.
I'd say go for it.
I will, thanks Huw.
Kind regards, Huw
