This posting may be a case of the blind leading the blind,

Hi all,
In the upper-left pane of Yast Online update, there are patches in red (security), blue (recommended), and black (optional) listed for softwarepackages that I don't have installed, such as Apache 2. And I notice when I click on the "Include installed patches" checkbox more appear. Can someone advise me on the correct way to handle these patches, or direct me to a URL regarding this? Thanks!

I am assuming you have either 8.1 or 8.2 as the behaviour you describe is not how it is in 8.0. (8.0 is simplier, accept the update or not !!! ) Further, I assume you have discoved that if your right click on the box, you get a "menu" of four choices. Obviously, if you don't have Apache, and don't want Apache, you don't want the box checked. In going thru the archieves I came across: Le Mardi 12 Novembre 2002 17:59, DJ a écrit :

I selected Yast2 | Install/Remove Program. I'm not sure, but I'm assuming, that the red text and the red background means that a newer version of the application is available for download or that it has already been downloaded.
Do I need to do something to make the red go away? Is the red text indicating I need to do something? If so, what would that be and where should I look to find out additional information?
I believe the red is for packages that have *already* been upgraded (thus whose version number is higher than the one on the CDs). So the red is normal and cannot be "removed". I really think SuSE could have chosen a less alarming color, if you ask me! You can check what I said by looking at the columns "Installed version" and "Available version" in YaST2 and comparing them.
I would caution you the Yast at times "back levels" so be warned. However, I don't know of a URL. There is probably a "README" in /usr/share/doc/packages/yast - "WHATEVER" I did find: file:/usr/share/doc/packages/yast2-online-update/y2c_online_update.html (If you haven't installed your "help files," you want to do that: "Control Center > System Administartation > Help Index > Administrative Mode > (check all boxes) > Build Index " In addition the SuSE Help Center (red life presevor) has 9 articles under "YOU" and 88 articles under "yast" -- HTH Gar __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network.
