Updating to XFree 4.1 may prevent you from running Mozilla 0.9.1
After updating to XFree 4.1 my newly installed Mozilla 0.9.1 won't run. I get this error: ************************************************** nsNativeComponentLoader: SelfRegisterDll(/home/raffo/contrib/mozilla/components/libgfx_gtk.so) Loa d FAILED with error: shared object not open ************************************************** Using ldd on libgfx_gtk.so it shows that the library libXIE.so is missing. On the earlier versions of XFree86, that library was part of the xdevel package. Now it is not installed at all. Copying the old libraries doesn't work either. I'll reverse the update. What's going on with the XFree86 updates from SuSE? The file wmlist is missing, now this lib is missing. It looks sloppy. -- Rafael
I had the same problem. Wmlist is in the directory in which you find
the 7.0., 7.1, 7.2 directories. It is the last file there.
If you find another fix for this problem please let me know.
Actually, strangely, I got mozilla to run once, exactly as root...
Never again, I get the same message as you. Go figure.

I guess I won't be upgrading with the rpm's I downloaded earlier..I won't loose use of Mozilla and I am scare it will just break the nVidia module and then no UT or Tribes2..nope..nope..ain't gonna do it *grin* * Corvin Russell (corvinr@sympatico.ca) [010613 22:46]: -> ->I had the same problem. The reazon I loaded mozilla was a problem with my mail. I filled up my quota in the imap server I read email from. I use Netscape to read it, but for some reazon I lost two folders while my quota was full. I cursed and tried to make copies of what I had left under mozilla. Then, I asked the postmaster to restore my mail from backup. So far so good, then I realized mozilla had f**cked up some of the mail messages I downloaded locally, lost more messages. No even editing the mail files worked, grrr. To top it off, every new release of mozilla seems to copy your netscape settings into a new profile in the .mozilla directory, it ignores the one already in there. More grrr. Is there a way to make mozilla use the profile in the .mozilla directory? Anyways, I have it working again. I still don't know if I should switch to mozilla. If I have to setup my mail account everytime I upgrade, I won't. -- Rafael

Ah, go ahead. It won't mess up the nvidia module any more than it already is. I did it last night and ALL works just as it did. Quake-III is all I have to go by but no problem here with gl/nvidia. I havn't tried mozilla 9 but 6 still works just like it did. I just did all the new kde packages and x4.1.0 packages and no problems were observed other than having to re-setup kdmrc a little. Same here -- I upgraded XFree86 from 4.0.3 to 4.1.0, and mozilla stopped working. *FROOOOWN* -Steven
Hi.
I did the same upgrade (from 4.0.3 to 4.1.0), and all of X completely
froze. Even 'X -probeonly' locked the PC, with a long e2fsck afterwards.
I tried twice with same results. I reverted to 4.03.
I have an S3 Savage 3D AGP primary, Matrox Millenium PCI secondary,
kernel 2.4.2, Suse 7.0.
I have graphics hardware sharing IRQ11 with other devices. These freeze
sounds familiar to me with an old X version freezing time ago because of
irq sharing; an upgrade solved it. Strange...

In the XFree 4.1 changelog from SuSE is the following: - disabled build of XIElib it seems to become a deprecated feature with the newer XFree 4.1 Sanyi On Thu, 14 Jun 2001, Rafael Herrera wrote:

Using ldd on libgfx_gtk.so it shows that the library libXIE.so is missing. On the earlier versions of XFree86, that library was part of the xdevel package. Now it is not installed at all.

With the lib that is now there, I got my 0.9.1 to work again. Have to be invoked as /opt/mozilla/mozilla though. -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A. P. J.

Hi, libXIE is missing because its not part of XF86 anymore. I remember seeing a discussion about it on XF86 devel list. Look at the list archives to get the scoop. wmlist is on the ftp server on its own and not a part of any package last I checked. -- Nadeem Hasan nhasan@nadmm.com http://www.nadmm.com/
