Hi there, Today I got my boxed set from SuSE and tried to install SuSE 9.2. Well No Luck... Where 9.1 runs smoothly, now i can't get the kernel to boot up. My mainboard is an Asus P4P800 with 512 Mb, ICH5 SATA controller (with connected harddisk) and an IDE DVD-recorder. There is also an Adaptec 2904 with a zip-drive and a cd-rom present. So far, never had any problems. When I start with the DVD, it just stops with the message "searching for infofile" and just hangs there. Ok. No problem, boot again and switch to console #3. After the lines: ata_piix.ko and aic7xxx.ko i'll get the "memory oops 1" and the machine hangs. This happens with every gruboption I can think, including the "Manual Installation". Is the money I spend on this set down the drain or is there a way to get it working on my configuration? Regards, Peter Groen

My 9.2 wouldn't boot on two machines I tried to install. It would get to the install options screen and after I selected an install option it would just come up with a blank screen. I managed to get the kernel messages by selecting the nongraphic install option and saw that ACPI was causing the kernel to panic. On one machine (GIGABYTE mobo) I changed some of the ACPI defaults in the bios from S3 to S1 (or vice versa I don't remember) and I could now proceed with the installation. After that things went fairly smoothly. The weird thing is that after the install I could choose any setting and the machine would boot without problem. On the other box I had to disable ACPI altogether to be able to install. I've only had some problems with the new hardware monitor starting up and taking up a lot of CPU time even though I disabled it. I would suggest disabling ACPI in your BIOS since it seems to be very unstable but I'm not sure if it will help. Good luck, Brana

seems like it has been a problem since 8 something.. I didn't notice if there is an option to install or boot ACPI disabled , there used to be, but I haven't tried to install on anything that uses that setting for anything. So can only add my voice to this suggestion. and a Caveat to those who are still waiting to join in the 9.1 fun... if you had trouble w/ Suse in the past and ACPI you likely will on this install, so disable the thing ahead of time to save headaches. -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit

Stick a floppy in the drive and it goes to the floppy drive looking for the info file, then it carries on. It hasn't hung, it just hangs around for ages after spitting out that message, then continues. This came about around 8.0 or 8.1. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... HI all you guys, After one heavy night its finally running. I had to do a "Text mode install" to get the system up. When I finished everything booted up nicely and !WOW! was I surprised. Where YaST was sluggish in 9.1, that seems to be solved. ALso the KDE suite looks more responsive. Now the only two thing s I have to fix are the bootsplash and my pwc-based camera.... (Hello, Erik J. ;) ) Thanx for your answers. Regards, Peter

Regards,
For what it's worth, I installed 9.2 on the same MB - no problems, although I don't use sata. Try turning off apm and acpi (boot failsafe from the disk).
