I play Tribes2, Q3A and UT all the time... I was a Tribes2 beta tester on Linux, and found out something interesting during that time. It appears that Tribes2 runs better on Linux than it does on Windows, due to superior texture handling efficiencies in Linux that aren't as effecient in Windows. AFAICT, all 3 of these games run better under Linux than they do in Windows, and I've played both Q3A and UT in Windows a LOT. I have no reason to buy Tribes2 for Windows, as it runs very very very well under Linux. Take care, Steven
I have Unreal Tournament and Heretic2. plan to get Tribes to and Heavy Metal2-FAKK. I'm also interested in getting WINE tweaked and set up to play some Windblows98 games - but just got it working right and haven't found any good howto's about optimization of alterantive wine setups. Quake 3 has a patch that enables Winblow versions to install as native linux. The readme at lokigames tells you to make a couple of directories, copy a couple of files used for the winblow version to those directories, then run an installer - viola - Q3A on linux (or you could support them and buy the full native version) runs great. Q2 is either windows/wine or native Linux for ID games. On Friday 25 May 2001 10:05 am, Jason Corcoran wrote:

I agree. I played alot of games under windblows and especially UT. Certain aspect of the visuals in windblows appeared to be smooth, but in Linux the graphics are cleaners and blend better. There are more "tweak" programs for the nvidia card under windblows that has helped me compensate. But, natively I get better performance and quality under Linux as well. I only wish I could tweak my network settings more. I have only been able to change the MTU for ifconfig and that's set at 1500. Do you know of any tweaks or info/HOWTO's for optimizing network params? TIA. Curtis Rey (aka Crusher-1 :) On Friday 25 May 2001 09:14 am, Steven Hatfield wrote:

I had no idea all these games were available under Linux! I only have Quake + the missions. I found that in a bargin bin for a couple of $$. The store owner told me he got it in after hearing that so many people had started using Linux...and no one was interested. He swore he would never make the same mistake again. Do you get all the Linux games from Loki or is there another source? Gerry On Fri, 25 May 2001, Matthew wrote:

I got mine from www.tuxgames.com and from www.ebworld.com. You should tell your local store to wait for now as the market is growing, albeit slowly Matt On Fri, 25 May 2001 gerry@dorfam.ca wrote:

3? I wonder, would that be Loki, Tribsoft (JA2 is awesome if you like that sort of thing) and the people who made Terminus? We need to throw in Bioware too (NeverWinternights) and possibly Funcom (the makers of Anarchy-online). I do know more games have been ported by their respective companies, but never released because the publishers think that the market is too small... Matt On Fri, 25 May 2001, Ben Rosenberg wrote:
