Problems with Apache2 & PHP on 9.1
(sorry if this is a bit long, but I wanted to include enough info) Hi, I can't seem to get apache2 and php working together here. If I don't install apache2_mod_php4 then apache works properly, but as soon as I add modphp then apache2 won't serve pages. Doing: /etc/init.d/apache2 restart -e debug gives me: Starting httpd2 (prefork) [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module access_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module actions_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module alias_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module auth_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module auth_dbm_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module autoindex_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module cgi_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module dir_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module env_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module expires_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module include_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module log_config_modul e [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module mime_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module negotiation_modu le [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module setenvif_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module ssl_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module suexec_module [Mon May 31 11:41:19 2004] [debug] mod_so.c(247): loaded module userdir_module When I try to access any page on the server, I get this: [Mon May 31 11:42:14 2004] [notice] child pid 14115 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Interestingly, nothing is showing up in the access.log, so the problem must be occuring very early on. Is there any way to fix this, or alternatively to find out which/what child process is dying? thanks in advance for any help, Nik

I forgot to write that I'd updated both modphp and apache2 via YOU, and still have the same problems. I have also removed php4-recode just on the off chance, but no go. I have also tried newer version of apache2 via apt (I think in suse-projects) but still get the same problem. Nik

Not a solution, but just wanted to mention that I'm experiencing the same problem with the latest versions of Apache and PHP from a recent APT upgrade. They were working well prior to the upgrade. -Trey

All, if you use apt-get, you'll get packages from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/apache/apache2/9.1-i386/ installed. Those are compiled with large file support, because this is a feature that 9.1's apache2 does not have, but some people need, and modules from plain 9.1 will not work together with them. Builds of matching modules are to be found under ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/apache/ as well, and as such are available via apt-get automatically. However, a php4 build for 9.1 is still missing. This is regrettable, but I just returned from a vacation and I'll see if I get a build done in the next days. Till then you best disable php4 or use the apache2/libapr0 combo as it shipped with the shipped distro. Peter

Okay, I am happy to let you know that the php4 packages are going the FTP server now, and apt-get should pick them up in a few hours. Peter

Tried them out, and they appear to be working perfectly. Thanks for the swift fix, Nik
