Has anyone succeeded in downloading Netscape 4.72 for Linux? Each time I've tried it, there seems to be some problem with the lead-in web page, although the page you get to via Netscape Help / Update indicates that it exists. I can't find it on the website but the ftp site has the permissions setup like: tp> ls 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls. total 8 drwxr-xr-x 5 888 999 47 Jan 10 13:19 . drwxr-xr-x 14 888 999 4096 Jun 15 1999 .. drwxr-xr-x 5 888 999 50 Jun 14 1999 4.61 drwxr-xr-x 5 888 999 50 Sep 28 17:35 4.7 drwx------ 5 888 999 50 Feb 11 14:42 4.72 So I'd bet that's the problem. So I'd bet that's the problem.
My impression is that Netscape sets things up so that you can't get a browser using 128-bit encryption via ftp - you have to go through an http / cgi sequence. The reason is that they don't want people picking up that software without confirming the export agreement. I think I read somewhere that Netscape pulled out 4.72, I am not sure though. Nadeem "Paul W. Abrahams" wrote:
