I am considering a new colour laser network printer for my shop. It is used for office colour printing and graphics, but not photos and proofs. I have openSUSE 11.4/21.1, Mac OSX 10.6.8 SL/10.7.2 Lion and Windows XP/7.
See http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Purchasing_a_Printer_and_Compatibility and http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2007-01/msg04214.html In short: Buy a PostScript printer. To be future-proof: Buy a PostScript + PDF printer, see http://en.opensuse.org/Concepts_printing
network printers (Wi-Fi?).
Regarding network printers, see http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-1.5/network.html and http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2008-09/msg00090.html Regarding wireless network: In theory it should not matter which kind of physical network connection is used (e.g. wireless versus wired network connection) - provided the particular physical network connection works reliable. In practice wireless network connection is known to not work reliable (compared to traditional wired network connection). Furthermore wireless networking could be insecure, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_and_SANE_Firewall_settings Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH -- Maxfeldstrasse 5 -- 90409 Nuernberg -- Germany HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendoerffer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
