Reacting s-l-o-w-l-y after 24 hr up-time
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 My SuSE installation has been up & active for 24 hours. Now, applications are starting to slow down & some become totally unresponsive. Once I reboot, everything is fine for roughly another day. I have been using mldonkey - --which was compiled on 9 Pro-- but have also installed a couple items on this box that the compilation process called for on the other box. Should this be causing a problem? Any ideas?? I had attempted ...and succeeded compiling mldonkey on this box but it was behaving far worse than the current one. - -- ...CH Avoid doing business with 'The Link' ISP. Check with top to see if anything is hogging CPU or memory. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer Linux Only Shop.

Thanks. I was looking for gkrellm & realized that isn't on 9.1 Personal.
I also found a new app on freshmeat.net, "htop" which does a nice job and is scrollable. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer Linux Only Shop.

Check with "top" which applications eat your CPU time. Also check on the load average (shown in "top"). It could be a simple thing like a browser with a java applet eating all your CPU time. A process that is causing heavy disk I/O could also be the cause. Maybe there's a cron job running (like updatedb). Greetings from Bremen hartmut

Greetings from Bremen hartmut Seems whatever it was that caused this problem was fairly short-lived... so it may have been cron. It seemed only to affect the konqueror web browser & kget, however. Kget quit responding & the browser was sluggish. Firefox loaded fairly quickly, as always. I'll keep my eye on 'top' (no pun intended) to see what I can learn. Thanks!
