[opensuse] Ooh! FF 9.0.1 and TB 9.0 looks pretty good.
All, Just dropping a note to say Firefox 9.0.1 and Thunderbird 9.0 look pretty good. Version jumps always scare the heck out of me with what may have been mucked up trying to 'improve' things. So far, responsiveness seems improved and interface stayed the same from an appearance standpoint from what I can tell. Note: That IS the definition of 'improvement.' :) Merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate! -- David C. I saw a big jump in performance and quality from 7.x to 8.x, but after upgrading to 9.x two websites simply refuse to load (although the browser says, "Done" and does not report an error, all I see is a blank page. One, facebook, is not that critical. The other, my bank's online banking page, is somewhat more so. Even more annoying, though, is that the "Send Feeback" page is broken - no matter how many times I click on "Submit", nothing happens! I think I'm going to have to go back to 8.x. :-( -- =================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au =================================================== -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Really? On my machine, facebook works very well. I´m using Firefox 8.99 from the mozilla unstable repo. -- Kim Leyendecker, openSUSE Wiki Team GPG Key: 664265369547B825 | leyendecker@opensuse.org http://www.opensuse.org - Linux for open minds -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It worked fine with version 8 - it only broke with version 9. Thinking about it, there was also an update for Adobe Flash Player (v11, I think) that installed at the same time - that may have broken it. I just need some time to disect things and see exactly what caused the breakage. -- =================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au =================================================== -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have found the same thing whch is that FF v9 has problems with some sites. For example, my wife is on some forums and with FF v9 she could not post so I had to re-install v8 on her computer. As for me, I cannot access my telephone account with our Telco.
Even more annoying, though, is that the "Send Feeback" page is broken - no matter how many times I click on "Submit", nothing happens! I think I'm going to have to go back to 8.x. :-(

Thanks and I wish the same to you. Regarding the topic, I really do not like and don't understand either why it is necessary to increase major version numbers every 2-4 weeks. For changes that earlier deserved a 0.00x version number minor update. And add to this that since firefox 3.0, when they messed up printing they have not been able to fix printing (especiall print to file) issues. During the last more than 3 years and through 3.5 3.6 4.0 5.0 6.0 7.0 8.0 and I suppose 9.0 (I haven't checked yet) versions. I mean things like firefox can not remember printer resolution; It always resets to 300 dpi even in one firefox session. Managing addons is also more difficult with these continous 'upgrades'. Last but not least I dont't want to reinstall every few weeks my browser, I would prefer a stable thing that I can rely on. Please do not take this as a personal offense, I am just not satisfied with firefox lately, and your post was a good occasion to write about it. Just my opinion -- with IE on 9, Opera on 11, Chrome on 15; I think they are trying to catch up with the version number of the other browsers :) -- Arun Khan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Silly question. Why in year "infinity plus one" minus one of course, the typical way major apps are named. :-) -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
